About Sylvia

Sylvia Saenger is passionate about helping families grow closer and have more fun together! She believes that by teaching parents how to raise resourceful and independent children it will result in a connected, happy family.

Sylvia started teaching families over 15 years ago with her first class, “Cherishing the Family: Learning to use language that nourishes our family relationships.” After that, she developed other classes including: “Centsable Allowance“: Teaching children to earn money so they can become cheerful givers, responsible savers, and careful spenders. (Ages 2 1/2 -18), “Mutual Respect“: What Does it Mean to Your Family?, “The Four Faces of Self-Esteem“: Using descriptive praise to bolster self-esteem, self-respect, and self-confidence., “Creating Memories Through Family Traditions“: Nurturing family ties through joyful celebration of special times.

Along the way, Sylvia organized the founding team and was the Head of School for Follow the Child Montessori School. She enjoyed teaching many of these courses during her 10-year tenure. In addition, as an administrator, she doubled student enrollment, grew the staff three-fold and lead many professional development activities. Sylvia also integrated technology into all aspects of the school. Under her watch the budget grew to $1.2 million without debt.

After Sylvia’s time at the school, she co-founded Paradigms to Practices, a company that supports continuous learning for trainers in industry. She is a lover of technology, software developer, educator, and visionary with 30 years of experience. She is passionate about finding innovative ways of using technology to support learning and change initiatives. Sylvia is known for helping people break down complex problems by creating hands-on representations, allowing clients to interact with the problem, thereby gaining valuable insights.

Sylvia’s technical expertise was gained in her years at IBM. She was a software developer with experience in product quality assurance and testing. In addition she taught technical classes at the IBM Corporate Technical Education Center. Sylvia is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Purdue University with a BS triple major in mathematics, computer science, and statistics.

Sylvia and her husband, Dan, live in Raleigh, NC and are now empty nesters with two grown children. As a family they have spent the last 18 years traveling around the country in their RV and have visited over 80 National Parks. They still all love cooking together and then getting to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Sylvia can often be found baking, learning new things, and spending time with family and friends.
